LinkedIn posting — algorithm basics — how to get your post spreading

✨Did you know that it has been already a year since the first LinkedIn tips articles were kicked off in the EHRS news letters? ✨

Knowing this, by now you should have a decent LinkedIn profile and it is time to upskill your LinkedIn posting. To do this, let’s cover the basics of the LinkedIn algorithm — the “evaluation formula”  that decides whether your post is good and should be boosted or not so good and should be slowed down from spreading.

Here are 8 questions you can use as a checklist for creating a good LinkedIn post. These questions help you to post in the best possible way — so your post reaches the right people and gets a good engagement:

1️⃣ Is your post relevant for your audience and is it informative? What kind of value your post creates to those who take the time to read it? Does your post have visuals such as a picture or a video to support your content?

2️⃣ When is your audience actually on LinkedIn and would be able to read and engage with your post? As guided in one of the earlier tips articles, consider scheduling your post for an optimal posting time.

3️⃣ How are you planning to promote your post on Linkedin or off LinkedIn? Promote your post from your own side as well. Share the link to your post with close connections who would find it relevant. Or even ask your team to engage with your content.

4️⃣ Does your post have external links? If yes, the recommendation is to limit it only to one external link. When possible upload your original video directly to LinkedIn. Avoid using several links in one post. This will feel like spam to LinkedIn. PS! Some like to add links to comments instead. It feels like spam when you are the first one to comment on your own post as well.

5️⃣ How do you plan to keep the conversation going once your post is up? Interact with every comment — like them, reply to them. LinkedIn likes to see conversations and this will help to boost your post.

6️⃣ How can you add value when resharing a post? Don’t just push the repost button. Add your own thoughts and insights to the existing post.

7️⃣ Is your network fit for the topics you are posting about? Make sure to strategically build your network.

8️⃣ How was your last post performing? Keep an eye on the basic metrics - engagement, comments etc. This will help to get feedback about what is working and what is not.

Happy posting!

Next months we will be focusing on adding visuals to your LinkedIn posts, so stay tuned!
